Smart Building Services

A Smart Building is, essentially, an interconnected one.

By converging various building-wide systems, including security, alarms, HVAC and lighting, into a single IT-managed network infrastructure, a regular building becomes a ‘Smart Building’.

How do they work?

By using its ‘intelligence’, actionable data collected from user devices, sensors, systems, and services on the premises, a Smart Building can then use artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML), to make the building both programmable and responsive to the needs of those within.

This intelligence can then improve security within the company, as the network can identify and segment devices and learn their behaviour, improving detection of anomalies and intrusions.

What is Power over Ethernet, and what’s its role?

Power over Ethernet, or PoE, is a way of delivering DC power to devices over copper Ethernet cabling. This eliminates the need for separate power supplies and outlets.

Using PoE to power devices offers greater location flexibility, and comes at a lower cost to deploy and operate compared to AC power.

In a Smart Building  PoE  can be used to power multiple devices, including sensors, lighting, and fire alarms, as well as USB-C laptops, TV and computer monitors, shades, refrigerators, and room air conditioners.
